People + Portraits Photography Talent Spotlight`Kendra-Paige has been on deviantART for over eight years now and has made a strong mark on the people and portraits gallery especially with her fashion work. Her kit consists of a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon EF 85mm 1.2L II lens using various other lenses and focal lengths but repeatedly gravitating towards the 85mm. She uses a combination of lightroom and photoshop to post-process her work although she keeps her editing as minimal as possible as she doesn't enjoy the post-processing bit of photography!
Why did you choose people as a photographical interest?
I have always found people to be fascinating, and I have a particular interest in expressions and eyes. The eyes tend to be the focal point in a lot of my work, and typically dictate the image. Aside from this, it’s the collaborative effort that I enjoy in portraiture. When you take images of animals and nature, there is only so much control you have with the subject - a lot of it is luck

I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

Film, Animation and Flash Mini-Contest!Hello folks! So this month is Flash, Animation and Flash month for the #ArtHistoryProject.
So me and ^SqueakyToybox have been discussing about the idea of having a joint contest! We struggled for a while to find a good theme that would apply well across these mediums. So then we thought deviantART is full of members across the world. Even myself I'm from the UK and ^SqueakyToybox is from Australia so we're literally halfway across the world from each other.
So we thought a good theme to set you all is:
Connecting People
We would like you to create a piece of work using animation, video or Flash and we will award prizes for each gallery! So we will have a prize for a winner and runner up for film/animation and the same for Flash.
You have until the end of this month, February 28th to send all your work in and we'll announce winners shortly after! Now we appreciate that's not exactly a lot of production time for this sort of wor

In the news this week there has been a spotlight on Karren Brady, a photographer who has won a copyright ruling. The news article itself is interesting but the cautions that it turfs up for the future and current generations of photographers are slightly more concerning. The general feeling that has started to develop is that if you have assistance with setting up a shot, making a scene, posing a model and making up a person for example, those people may well have rights to your work. Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. Welcome to the Halloween season! We're celebrating with a cross over contest! The Artistic Nude, Fetish, Glamour and Pinup Galleries are all getting together! Pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns and scarecrows, bats and ghosties galore! You can be silly and cute or creepy and dark, just keep it Halloweeny!

Submit to the official contest gallery here! You can see all the current entries here.

Rules

One entry per person, per gallery. Aka, you can submit one art nude, one fetish, one glamour, and one pinup. However, you will only be able to win once!

All entries must fit into one of the following four galleries: Artistic Nude photography, Fetish photography, Glamour photography, or Pinup photography. You MUST mention in your artist comments which gallery you are submitting for. Submissions that don't clearly state what gallery they are for, or that don't fit into any of the galleries will be removed.

Submissions must be from 2012.

Submissions must incorporate the idea of Halloween. Obviously, this is pretty open to interpretation, but this will be at the discretion of ^Nyx-Valentine and ^DistortedSmile

Entries can be entered into BOTH this contest, and ~PeopleAndPortraits Seasonal contest. Please be sure it fits into the rules for both!
